I really need some help to fix my internet issue. The whole time during practice my connection is horribly unstable and I can't score a lap. Then we get to race time and it "corrects" itself all of a sudden?!?! I don't understand why,but in Race mode I have no issues with it. It really drives me nuts because I can't qualify at all with it, but then I can race with no issues at all (excluding my lack of driving ability ). I've disabled my firewall as well as file sharing and every other optional setting that would allow anything to use the internet in the background. I only have the internet hooked up to my laptop and it is straight from my modem, no extra routers. I am beyond frustrated with it at the moment and can not think of anything else to do to be able to fix it. If anyone has any clue as to anything that I can try, please me let know. I am probably going to contact my ISP tomorrow.

Have you ever had this problem before? If no have you ever ran this MOD.
From the different computers that I have hooked up and tried to play Nascar I have found different things.
Older computer ran fine with 2gigs of RAM yet one with only a gig of ram just couldnt do it. Sometimes the older processors can't handle it. Have seen newer celeron style processors not be able to handle it.
With your laptop I take its fairly new ect ... your FPS are nice but have you ever thought of putting in another gig of ram in your laptop? Wouldn't hurt and doesn't cost that much to do.
What OS are you running too.
btw the old sys requirements are this ...
System requirements: Pentium II 450 MHz processor (Pentium III 800 MHz or higher recommended), 64 MB RAM (128 MB recommended), 16 MB Direct3D compatible video card (32MB recommended), 8X CD-ROM drive, DirectX 9.0, OpenGL* 1.1 or later (may not work on all cards and/or system configurations)
When my computer went down I tried a different computer and it just couldnt handle the race. Everyting listed above was met well well above what they required *or say*. Might be the MOD being used , maybe the sys resources are low or maybe there is a bottleneck with sending and recieving info.
I have never tried running the game off from a laptop so maybe Billy can layout somethings too.
What are your specs on the laptop. OS/RAM/CPU Type ect.....

You might need to check your anti-virus. I had to remove it from one of my computers to watch netflix because it kept interfering with my connection speed with DSL. I can't imagine what it might do with dial up. Don't you guys in Henrico county have DSL yet?

even thou you have disabled the firewall have you also went in and opened the ports that the game recommends? How do you do that? I've tried nearly everything I can think of and it has not worked. I'm willing to try just about anything at this point. So far this has been a perfect laptop and has caused me no issues, but I'm really going to be POed if I can't practice online with it. And I'm running DSL through Verizon...i'm actually not in Henrico, i'm about 2 miles from the Chickahomony River line and living on the Hanover side ;D

Daniel it has something to do with the dual processor, you need to set it up to run the game in single processor mode, A friend of ours had the same issue. I personally dont know how you do it but I'm guessing that is the issue

Let me know if you can find out anything for me...I'll start making some phone calls to see what I can find out. well after reading your specs again I've heard that Vista also has some issues with NR2003 here's a link about dual core , thou it's all for AMD and XP www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=983781Fix #4 - Set the Affinity Manually might be worth a try for you thou

I'm sure you have long ago tried to run in xp compatibility mode but if not do that,
'Games' menu ,NR2003 right click on it and go to customize. then go into edit the first play button and tab called compatibility, there it is: Run this program in compatibility mode for... followed by a list of modes (like XP SP 2, Windows 2000 and more). chose Windows XP (Service Pack 2), check the run as administrator check box and open the game, and presto.
here's another option as well.
since its a Vista system (try at own risk btw)
if the affinity does not work you could try this,
turning off DEP
DEP or NoExecute Protection will is a vital part of vista security. During these early builds, however, it can lead to many explorer crashes.
If you are getting a lot of explorer crashes, disable it and see if it helps.
Disable DEP in Vista:
1. Click Start 2. Click All Programs 3. Click Accessories 4. Right Click on Command Prompt 5. Left click on Run as Administrator 6. Click the Allow button if it asks you for permission 7. Type or copy and paste this into the command prompt window:
bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
8. Hit enter and you should see the confirmation: Operation Completed Successfully 9. Reboot and DEP should be off.
again try at own risk,
I refuse to run Vista until I have no other option !!

Microsoft quit selling Windows XP today, lol. So you better stock up on some extra copies just in case.

Even after M$ stops selling XP, it won't stop me from using it, or reinstalling it for many years to come.
